Facets
A percussion quartet built note by note out of a single blooming chord.
Part of the Bloom family
Premiere — Conor Hanick · Private Metropolis Ensemble event · 2014-05-05
A percussion quartet across vibraphones, marimbas, glockenspiel, and crotales. I built it with a method from the bloom family I call .pivot — taking a slow blooming chord and threading its notes into a fast, interlocking surface across four players. It’s the most beautifully constructed piece I’ve written.
It started as a solo piano piece for Conor Hanick and became this quartet, premiered at the So Percussion Summer Institute in 2014. I later expanded its material into the orchestral Well of Whales.
